Community Gatherings

Future Meetings: Proposed Retreat - THURSDAY MAY 18th?
Proposed schedule / calendar meeting with Alicia- ? Jordan and Francesca volunteered to meet w Alicia.

February 23rd DRAFT Agenda
1. Report out: CFG Institute

Mind-blowing. There was no negative feedback during the reflection pieces. A bit disconcerting - positive group, responsive, got a lot of work done. Highlights and new protocols (none for Facilitators, but new for the institute). Tom joined, but was in and out due to PD issues. One of the most positive and engaged groups - most rewarding even though they were there for PSU credit. Different folks shone at different moments during different protocols. Might zone out at one time, but when tuned in, reflections were deep and meaningful.

Debrief time was not as powerful as it could have been. Need to revisit the travel and pre-planning time. Could have been clearer in terms of the parameters in terms of departure time (up front! In the invitation to be a trainer of the trainer

2. Nomenclature within our Community
To be discussed perhaps at our retreat

Spring CFG Work Days (Advanced Institute)
3 people this morning.

Pro Dev Scope and Sequence (Francesca) http://saspd.wikispaces.com/Scope+and+Sequence+%26+Rubrics
Presentation
Document is for work on Pro Dev committee to show movement in teacher learning
Looking at Collaboration and Critical Community Strand
What is it you do in each of the "phases"? What learning opportunities would encourage movement to next steps.
Focus Question: How can these strands be clear to an observer in terms of the steps they need become an expert?
Clarifying Questions:
Authors:
Written by Francesca, Steve Doleman, Becky Mott,
Purpose: Used for SAS faculty for funding for different initiatives, determine levels of PD and training in different areasl
Access: not clear on that facet yet
Shared all facets of experiences
Primary purpose is to help extend next steps to make clear the path of learning.
Extended Clarifying Questions:

Warm:

  • Uses the language of CFG

  • PD box builds a good roadmap

  • Open language:, e.g., Novice language is not "too CFG'd", very clear

  • Clearly laid out the criteria is in terms of the bullet points and road map

  • Action verbs

  • Aesthetically pleasing

  • Progresses right to left

  • Observer is not too big a box to chew or swallow

  • Allows for Community Leader reflection

Cool:

  • Wondering about combining CFG Community and language and communication - why separate

  • What does it communicate not having a grey box in expert if we believe we're life long learners indicates that it has an end point

  • Would it be clearer to see the progression of each bullet point through the

  • I wonder if there is a better verb for the novice rather than user

  • I wonder if just getting one's hands on the book would be helpful for a novice

  • What happens if you haven't met all the criteria as a novice

  • Is there space for the resources (proficient), e.g., FBOQ

  • I wonder if seeing this singular CFG strands would provide

Makes presenter think that the rubric should be Professional Learning Communities (like tech = use of tech) and other strands can be combined or somewhere else for our use. The ideas make sense - hard to separate embedded PD from PD necessary. Worried in presenting that not everyone has the context.

Good with other CFG'rs, VC is not a hindrance. Warm Feedback Rocks, Time to absorb the document is always a concern. Facilitator wasn't

Tuesday March 30th (??)- CFG Community Proposed Retreat Day (details to follow): Later in the year (end of April, May (20th penciled in) )
Agenda items include: Growing our CFGs, Defining Look @ Learning, Give options (CFG, Atlas, Options), What are we willing to do?

Next meeting: New Teacher Mentor Days (Nomenclature is important).

January 21st Agenda

1) "Community Communication Warehouse" (Alicia)
- Yaaaaa, We all joined this awesome cfg wiki and learned how to add some things. Now I am even keeping the minutes on this page.

2) Team leaders follow-up
Slight adjustments to the Fall Leadership Team kalidescope so it looks more like training & experiences that use CFG protocols rather than a CFG protocol training.

There are concrete needs and expectations during the course of the year for which team leaders need to be prepared. It seems that the initial and follow-up team leader training might live better in the Admin team with facilitation by CFG-trained team leaders, rather than designed by the CFG Community. We involve the Admin team in the initial planning and we have the follow-up focus coming from the admin... In having the admin there it would be more direct focus and communication of the expectations for team leaders. This will help bridge the disconnect between admin and team leaders. It will also see cfg trained people in more of a consultant's role where we (all cfg trained people possible for this) simply offer protocols/strategies to tackle the admin/team issues.

For the team leadership meeting:
We want to poll the new team leaders to ask them what issue they would be disapointed if they didn't get to talk about.

Also we want to poll admin and look to what they really would like to look into for their team leaders next year.

We will also try to organize the attendees around certain themes/desired issues to look at (open space connections for people with similar issues to look into)

3) CFG trained teachers on each campus stepping up:
Jeanie M

4) CFG Feb institute update:

- Concern about the fact that some people are simply there for credit (but we will just roll with it). We will approach it with this in mind! Also we can possibly look to the class instructor in order to really emphasize the important that this is not some sort of simple "show-up-grab-a-credit" time and also to clarify what exactly will be required for those who wish to get the credits.

- Space in Pudong will hopefull all fit us in the Garden Room.

Edprograms will send out an email to all participants confirming the importance of attendance everyone of the days.

December 8th meeting - thanks for the minutes Danka!
Danka Kulikowski, Julie Lindsay, Jason Robinson, and Jordan Small
